Frequently Asked Questions

Are your guides local experts?

Our guides are experienced local professionals with years of experience who are passionate about Ghana's history, culture, and wildlife.

What kind of clothing and footwear should I pack for a birding tour?

Wear lightweight, breathable clothing in neutral tones like khaki, green, or brown. Avoid bright colors or camouflage pattern clothing. Bring comfortable walking shoes or light hiking boots suitable for walking along sandy and marshy terrain.

When is the best time of the year to visit Sakumono Lagoon for birding?

While resident species are visible year round, the best time to visit is during the European winter months between November and February. This period sees massive influxes of migratory shorebirds and marine species filling the wetlands.

Do you provide optics or should I bring my own binoculars and scope?

We recommend bringing your personal binoculars and camera gear with a telephoto lens. Your expert guide will also carry a high quality spotting scope for group viewing of distant bird species.

What are the standard pick-up and drop-off times?

Since bird activity peaks early in the morning, pick-up usually takes place around 6:00 AM from your Accra location. The tour lasts approximately half a day, returning you by late morning or early afternoon.

How physically demanding is this Sakumono Lagoon tour?

This tour is low intensity and easy for participants of most fitness levels. It involves short, relaxed walks along the flat sandbar and flat marsh trails.

How large are your tour groups?

We specialize in private and small group tours. Keeping group sizes small ensures a quiet environment so birds are not scared away and everyone gets a personal viewing experience.

What happens if the weather affects the tour?

Birding can often continue in light drizzle, but in the case of heavy tropical rain, our team will adjust the start time to ensure you get the best viewing conditions possible. At most, the tour could be rescheduled if the conditions are not conducive.

Are sea turtle sightings guaranteed during the tour?

No, sea turtle sightings along the sandbar are rare and seasonal. While the shoreline is a known nesting habitat, sightings depend on nature, sea conditions, and luck.

Can I take photos and videos during the tour?

Yes, photography is highly encouraged. You are welcome to take videos and photos of the wildlife and natural scenery. Always follow your guide regarding photography near local communities or traditional spaces.

What facilities or rest stops are available at the lagoon site?

Sakumono Lagoon is a protected urban wetland without extensive visitor facilities. Restroom facilities are accessed before heading into the field, and fresh bottled water is provided in your transport vehicle.

How much time will we spend driving on this itinerary?

Drive time is very short. Sakumono Lagoon is located near Tema, roughly 2km to 20km from central Accra depending on your specific pickup point, taking around 30 to 45 minutes each way. However, this estimated time is also dependent on traffic, road conditions, and natural occurrences.

Is a deposit required to confirm my booking?

Yes. A deposit is required to secure your dates, with the final balance due on or before the day your tour begins.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Upon cancellation, Easy Track Ghana will refund recoverable funds received, less a cancellation fee of up to 8.5% of the quoted tour fare. Unrecoverable costs may include accommodation deposits, domestic flights (if any), or other third-party services. Unrecoverable costs may be significant if the cancellation notice is received close to the tour date.

How does Easy Track Ghana support the local community?

We hire local guides and drivers, partner with locally-owned businesses, and support community initiatives in the regions we visit.
