Frequently Asked Questions

Can I eat local street food safely?

Yes, but follow your guide's lead. They will steer you toward vendors who maintain high hygiene standards so you can enjoy the experience with confidence.

Can you cater for food allergies and special dietary needs?

Yes. Please inform us of any severe food allergies, severe dietary restrictions, or nuts/seafood sensitivities when booking so your guide can tailor your tasting stops.

Are vegetarian/vegan meals available?

Yes. While traditional Ghanaian dishes often feature meat or fish, we can easily guide you toward plant-based options, including beans, fried plantains, fresh fruits, and vegetable stews.

Is the tap water safe to drink in Ghana?

No. Tap water is not safe for drinking. We provide a constant supply of bottled or treated sachet water throughout your tour.

Where is the exact meeting point, and is hotel pick-up available?

The group meets directly outside Urbano Hotel on Oxford Street in Osu at 10:30 AM. Private hotel pick-ups can be arranged in advance upon request (at an extra fee).

What specific foods will I sample on this tour?

Expect a mix of street food staples (like kelewele, bofrot, and khebab), chop bar soups and or stews served with traditional foods like kenkey, fufuo, banku, yam or rice, and sweet tropical fruits like coconut, mango, or pineapple.

What are the standard pick-up and drop-off times?

The tour begins promptly at 10:30 AM outside Urbano Hotel and lasts approximately 3 hours, concluding at the same location in the early afternoon.

How physically demanding are your tours?

This walk is low to moderately demanding, consisting of a steady 3-hour stroll through bustling street hubs with periodic seated stops at local chop bars.

What is your policy on spice levels and hot pepper?

Ghanaian street food can be spicy, but hot sauces (shito/pepper paste) are usually served on the side. Your guide can request mild options (if available) to fit your preference.

Are beverages included with the food tastings?

Yes. Clean bottled water and refreshing local drinks, like fresh coconut juice, are included to complement your tastings.

Can I take photos and videos during the tour?

Yes, photos are welcomed! However, out of respect, your guide will ask for permission from local cooks and market vendors before taking close-up photos.

What should I wear for this culinary walk?

Dress in lightweight, casual clothing and comfortable walking shoes. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat for protection against the heat.

Is bargaining expected in local markets?

Food pricing at street food stalls and chop bars is fixed, so bargaining is not expected for your meals.

What happens if it rains during the tour?

The tour proceeds rain or shine. In bad weather, your guide will route the walk through covered street stalls and indoor chop bar locations.
